We will be closing our Jubilee year of Mercy at ICC with the noon Mass and at St. Jude Mission with the 9:00 AM Mass next Sunday, November 20. On this same Sunday we complete our Liturgical Year with the Solemnity of Christ the King.

This past Jubilee Year invited us to celebrate the theme, “Merciful like the Father,” based on Luke 6:36. Throughout this past year each time we passed through the front door of each church, we passed through a “Holy Door” to intentionally remind ourselves not only of God’s Mercy toward us but also of our call to extend that Mercy to others.

St. Pope John Paul II reminds us that “…to focus on the door is to recall the responsibility of every believer to cross its threshold … [and] confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” (Incarnationis Mysterium 8, 2000). Pope Francis reminds us that Jesus Christ is the face of God’s Mercy [Misericordiae Vultus 1 2015].

There is a brief ritual we will use at the end of Mass in each church to remove from the doors the icons of mercy that have graced the doors this whole year. The Jubilee Year is ended but not the call to weave the fabric of God’s Mercy into our way of living Jesus.
