Adult Volunteers

Our programs are successful because of our volunteers. There are many opportunities, big and small, for adults to lend a hand. Safety is always our top priority. If you can share your time with our high school students and help to provide a safe environment for Youth Ministry activities and events, please contact Ruthie Patterson at youthministry@iccparish.org or call 410 392 3551.

You can also download and print a brochure with details and job descriptions for volunteer opportunities with high school students.

Catholic Heart Work Camp (mission trip)

Catholic Heart Work Camp 2011

Catholic Heart Work Camp can be the BEST week of your summer! Here is your chance to meet teens from all across the country and work together to revitalize communities and beautify homes for the elderly, disabled and those who cannot afford needed repairs. CHWC’s goal is to empower participants to live as Disciples of Christ through serving others and to foster the spiritual growth of each participant through the sacraments, Catholic faith sharing and prayer.

Cooking, anyone?

Our weekly Sunday night gatherings for high school students include FOOD. If you like to cook for a crowd, please let us know. We usually have a simple meal like sloppy joe sandwiches, or tacos, or baked ziti, or quiche, or fajitas, etc. Sometimes we make pancakes! If you’d like to cook a meal once in a while please email youthmistry@iccparish.org and let us know. The cook picks the menu!

Donations

Whenever our young people gather we have food and drinks. If you’d like to send some cans of coke or sprite, juice boxes, or small bottles of water, please do. And $$ donations towards pizza are always welcome. Thank you!

March for Life

March for Life, Washington, DC

The Annual March for Life is held in Washington, D.C. on or near January 22nd each year. High school students are welcome to attend the march as well as the lockin that is usually held the night before. We travel to D.C. by train from Perryville and sometimes join with other groups from our Diocese for the event. Watch the weekly bulletin and look under News on the parish web site for sign up information. You can also download this flyer for more details.

Music Ministry

High school students have several opportunities to participate in Music Ministry in our parish including the Parish Choir, the Contemporary Ensemble, and the Hand bell Ensemble. As a high school student you may also be an Instrumentalist, a Cantor and an Accompanist. Please visit our Music Ministry page for more information.

National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC)

The National Catholic Youth Conference is an exciting, biennial three-day experience of prayer, community, and empowerment for Catholic teenagers and their adult chaperones. The schedule includes keynote addresses, prayer, workshops, liturgy, opportunities to participate in reconciliation and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, recreational activities, concerts, exhibits, and an interactive thematic park. The 2011 NCYC will take place November 17-19 in Indianapolis with the theme Called to Glory. Please visit the NCYC website for more information. You can also view the NCYC promotional video on YouTube.

Pilgrimage (diocesan)

Annual Diocesan Pilgrimage

This is an annual event started in 2010 and held on the Saturday of Palm Sunday weekend. Young people, young adults, youth ministry leaders, and families are invited to join the Bishop as we carry a replica of the World Youth Day cross through the streets of Wilmington as a representation of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and his journey on Good Friday to Calvary.

The day begins with an opening prayer and includes Reconciliation, Eucharistic Adoration, a concert with a Catholic musician, and liturgy with the Bishop. A service component was added to the day’s events beginning in 2011. Please view the Pilgrimage promotional video on YouTube.

Pitcher & Basin (diocesan work camp)

Pitcher and Basin invites young people from around the Diocese of Wilmington to join together with their friends to give back to the community. Each year there are two chances to partner with Habitat for Humanity, Choptank. The group serves in Cambridge and Easton, MD and completes work on continuing projects and begins work on new projects. Participants also spend one whole day as a group at our host parish, St. Mary, Refuge of Sinners, to say “thanks” to the parish community by pitching in and completing projects on their to-do list. Please visit the diocesan website or download a brochure for more information.

Religious Education

Please visit our Faith Formation page.

Scouting

Service Opportunities

Helping in the cafeteria during the Christmas bazaar

High school students are welcome to volunteer at our annual Christmas Bazaar in November, as assistants in our Religious Education Program and Vacation Bible School, and for summer service projects for senior citizens in our parish. These and other service opportunities are posted on our schoolnotes page and under News on the Youth Ministry page as they become available.

Sunday Night Weekly Gatherings

All high school students (public, private and Catholic schools, as well as home-schooled) are welcome to participate in our Sunday night weekly gatherings from 6-8:00 PM in the Parish Center Youth Room. These gatherings usually include a simple meal, social time, and an activity based on one of the eight components of comprehensive youth ministry. Always check the parish bulletin and schoolnotes for the most recent updates.

You can also download and print a calendar with opportunities for high school students.

Youth Leadership Team (diocesan)

The Youth Leadership Team (YLT) consists of young people (high school students) from parishes and schools across the diocese identified by their faith communities as leaders among their peers. The group meets five to seven times during the academic year for leadership development and to assist the CYM office with diocesan events like CHAOS, One Spirit One Church, and the Pilgrimage.

Youth Ministry Leadership Team (parish)

The first goal of the YMLT is to determine the needs of the young people in our parish community and to plan ways to respond to those needs. A second goal is to strategize the best ways to engage young people in the life of the parish. This committee includes a wide range of young people and adults who represent students, parents and ministries within the parish community. The team meets four times a year. Several high school students may serve on this team as representatives of different groups within the parish.
