Immaculate Conception Parish
Music Ministry Program Information

Music ministry plays a key role in our worship life at Immaculate Conception Church and St. Jude Mission Church, in the way we reach out to our Elkton and North East communities, and in the way we move our parishioners in pilgrimage to our true home, that new Jerusalem where “throngs of saints make jubilee [and] angels pour out their songs of praise before the throne of God” (antiphon for Evening Prayer I, Common of the Dedication of a Church). Our parish music ministry fosters the prayer of the assembly and lifts minds and hearts to places that only music can carry them.

As pastoral musicians, we strive to maintain the long and living musical heritage handed to us by the Church, as well as draw on the breadth of contemporary compositions in many styles to find the best music for sung worship. Through their ministry, our cantors, accompanists and ensembles help to shape the people of God who are “strangers and aliens no longer” but “fellow citizens of the saints and members of the household of God” who “form a building which rises on the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone.” (Ephesians 2:19-22) A familiar hymn text summarizes the role of music and musicians: “We sing a myst’ry from the past in halls where saints have trod, yet ever new the music rings to Jesus, Living Song of God” (“Eye Has Not Seen,” text and tune: Marty Haugen, © 1982, GIA Publications, Inc.)

As Director of Music Ministry at Immaculate Conception Parish, I invite you to join us and “be filled with the Spirit” as we “address one another in psalms and hymns and inspired songs.” Come “sing praise to the Lord with all your hearts” giving “thanks to God the Father always and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 5:18b-20) Please contact me, Mike Bareham, for more information about any of the programs listed below. Call the music office at 410-398-3244 or send a message to musicministry@iccparish.org.
